Formula & scope

Strip footing volume is total length × footing width × footing depth.
Pad footing volume is pad length × pad width × pad depth × quantity.
It estimates material from dimensions you supply.
It does not determine bearing capacity, frost depth, reinforcement, wall loads or code-compliant footing dimensions.

Setting fence, gate or other posts instead? Use the Post Hole Concrete Calculator to subtract post displacement and combine different hole groups.

Concrete footing calculator FAQs

How is concrete for a strip footing calculated?

Strip footing volume is the total footing run length multiplied by the footing width and depth. The calculator then applies the selected contingency and rounds the ready-mix purchase quantity separately.

How is concrete for isolated pad footings calculated?

The calculator works out the volume of one pad from its length, width and depth, then multiplies that by the number of identical pads before contingency and procurement rounding are applied.

Does this calculator tell me what size my footing should be?

No. It is a quantity calculator only. It does not determine bearing capacity, frost depth, reinforcement, wall loads or code-compliant footing dimensions. Enter dimensions from the appropriate drawing, engineer or project requirements.

Why add a contingency to footing concrete?

The contingency is an editable procurement allowance and is shown separately from the exact geometric volume. Change it if your project, supplier or construction method requires a different allowance.

Can I compare ready-mix concrete with bags?

Yes. The result shows a ready-mix order and a bag equivalent using the selected manufacturer-published bag yield. If you enter prices, JobsiteMeasure can also estimate the relevant purchase costs.
